form to read, hopefully it will still bring you the
information you need.

The figure at the end of each description is our estimate, in pounds sterling. Bids are accepted above or below this figure, although bids below about 75% or 80% estimate only have a tiny chance of success (and are not normally sold at less than about two-thirds of estimate). Estimates are in Pounds Sterling do not include the 10% buyer's premium.
After the main listings you will find various information and instructions. This is followed by a sample bid form, and a copy of the the notes that appear on the reverse of our bid forms.
This is a public auction, in which written/telephone/e-mail bids are also accepted. If you are bidding with us for the first time, please bid by two of these methods with the same bids (e.g. by post and by phone, or by telephone and by e-mail), or bid in good enough time for us to get back in touch with you with any queries.
NEW BIDDERS;
Please note that bidders who are not already known to us are required to bid in the first instance by two different methods. The options available are email, telephone, or post. New customers attending one of our sales in person for the first time, and intending to bid, are invited to make themselves known before the sale starts. This saves the auctioneer from having to ask for a name during the sale. |

uro Currency; We are happy to accept Euro cash payments in
our shop. We normally allow the market rate rounded down to
the next whole penny. For example, at the time of writing,
the market rate is 0.7845, so we are allowing 78p per Euro
(which is probably better than your bank will give you). You
can also pay for lots in this auction by Euro banknotes
(postal customers please confirm before sending). We also
accept payments in our shop in Euros, and we buy the old
legacy currencies, as well as other coins and notes.
Methods
of payment accepted at auction;
Cash (Sterling, Euro notes)
Cheque
(from established customers)
Debit Card (no
surcharge)
Credit Card (no surcharge on UK
accounts)
Methods of payment accepted
after auction; all the above plus
Direct
bank transfer to our account (Robert
Murray Stamp Shop, sort code 82-45-05, account
80371787) but
please quote invoice number, and
email or phone to advise us of
payment,
plus
PayPal by arrangement (additional fee of 4% UK, 5%
foreign)
NB; credit card payments after
posting of
lots incur a 1.9% surcharge (higher for foreign).
Coming to the auction ?
Remember the Buy or Bid Sale - you can bring things along
for sale on
the night. We charge 25p per lot entry fee, and 10%
commission on sales (1% optional insurance).
We often have several hundred lots brought in for sale, of
all sorts of shapes and sizes, styles, and prices.

MATERIAL IS ACCEPTED FOR FUTURE SALES AT ANY TIME
Stamps and Collectables Auction,
Parcels;
At some parcel weight bands, Royal Mail are
now considerably dearer than some other carriers. Weve
almost always used Royal Mail and used postage stamps to
pay the postage. We have not in the past charged any
packaging fee above the cost of postage.
If we are asked to use a carrier to send a package (rather
than Royal Mail), and are not therefore using postage
stamps, we will charge 5 per consignment for packing,
plus 1 per further parcel (i.e. 1 parcel 5, 2 parcels
6, 3 parcels 7, et seq.). The buyer has to arrange the
carrier, and pick-ups must be made during our working
hours.
We trust youll understand !
We will continue to use Royal Mail as our default service,
but ask customers to say if theyd rather use another
parcel company.

Most auctions include a
few lots which, due to their large size or weight compared to
value, will not be taken to the auction venue. They must
therefore be viewed at our shop during the previous week, and
successful purchasers will be responsible for their collection
from us. The symbol for these is , and very generally
speaking, there's a cut-off point of about 2 or 3 estimate
per kilo weight.
If you attend the auction and buy any of these lots, you can
either call at the shop during normal opening hours, or it is
sometimes possible to arrange to pick up after the auction has
finished (though please first speak to Mr. Murray to arrange
this).
NORMAL BIDDING STEPS
We list here
our normal bid steps for your information. This may be of help
to bidders who are unable to
attend the sale, as any written bids received which do not fit
our normal pattern would usually be taken
down to the next normal step. (We keep to these increments as
much as possible, but do sometimes
change if circumstances make it desirable.)
Up to 20, bids are in 1 steps.
From 20 to 30, bids are in 2 steps.
>From 30 to 50, bids are in 2 or 3 steps (i.e. 30,
32, 35, 38, 40, 42, 45, 48, 50).
>From 50 to 100 in 5 steps.
From 100 to 200,
bids are in 10 steps.
>From 200 to 300, bids are in 20 steps.
>From 300 to 500, bids are in 20 or 30, and above this
in 5% to 10% steps.

a list of abbreviations and symbols used is from time to

CREDIT
CARDS
We are happy to accept
MasterCard and Visa credit card payments, as well as payments
by Maestro and Delta. This facility can be used by room
purchasers (who pay their accounts at the auction), by other
local customers (who pay their bill in our shop), and by
postal buyers.
In order to deal with postal clients, our bid forms have been
designed to make space for credit card instructions.
If you want your purchases charged in this way, please
complete the appropriate section.
Do not complete
these details unless you want to pay by debit/credit card, and to have the lots posted.
We have negotiated good rates with our bank, and are able to
absorb the bank charges for this service ourselves, and
therefore there is no additional charge for the use of this
facility, as long as postal bidders give us their details in
advance of posting. Only for postal buyers where card
details are given after posting, we will charge 1.9% extra (Visa/MasterCard), plus cost of
posting receipt slip.
VIEWING; please note that lots can normally be viewed in our
shop during the one week prior to the auction. It is
sometimes possible to view auction lots outside the normal times,
but this must be by special arrangement.
