           SWITZERLAND 1941
      �     In 1941 Switzerland was in an interesting place. Having remained neutral during the First
              World War it managed to do likewise in the Second, though was constantly aware of the
              possibility of invasion, protecting itself through a balance of military strength and readiness
              and limited concessions to Germany. 300,000 foreign nationals were interned there, and the
              Red Cross, headquartered in Geneva, carried out important r�les internationally.
              Stamp issues carried on without much apparent change or interruption (though notably prolific
              in 1941), but there were many effects on the mail services; acting as a clearing house for
              some mail between beligerant nations, seeing censorship introduced on most of the mail in
              and out of the country, providing postal services for refugees and interned foreign service
              personnel, and so on.
              The following collection was formed in Switzerland and gives a cross-section of Swiss
              philately seen through the single year of 1941. The collection attained vermeil awards at
              national level in Switzerland.
