The figure at the end of each description is our estimate, in pounds sterling. Bids are accepted above or below this figure, although bids below about 75% or 80% estimate only have a tiny chance of success. Estimates are in Pounds Sterling do not include the 10% buyer's premium.
After the main listings you will find various information and instructions. This is followed by a sample bid form, and a copy of the the notes that appear on the reverse of our bid forms.
This is a public auction, in which written/telephone/e-mail bids are also accepted. If you are bidding with us for the first time, please bid by two of these methods with the same bids (e.g. by post and by phone, or by telephone and by e-mail), or bid in good enough time for us to get back in touch with you with any queries.

These dates, though fairly firm, are still provisional. The
publication of the auction catalogue is confirmation of the
date.
WINTER WEATHER !
As the sale date
approaches we will doubtless be asked whether the auction is
going ahead if the current cold weather continues, or more
snow falls. For your guidance, the sale will proceed
as long as we can get auctioneer, staff, and auction lots to
the venue, and a long as the venue is habitable. In other
words, we will try hard to go ahead as normal . . . . it
will take more than a little snow to stop us !
Our websites home page (www.stamp-shop.com) will carry any
announcements, and will be updated on auction day if
necessary. If you decide not to attend in person on account
of the weather, please get your bids to us as early as
possible.
 Anybody
not
interested in the following Collectables section can
safely leave the auction
room (to look at the Buy or Bid Sale, or go upstairs to
the bar). There will be a short break at
the end of the non-philatelic lots, during which we
will give warning of the resumption of
stamp lots.
A Buyers Premium of 10%

THE END OF THE
 Robert Murray 2010
A Buyers Premium of 10% (vat-inclusive) will be
added to all sale prices.
0845 0500 886 Use
this
number to make bids or to check on prices after the auction or
any time you want to speak to us from anywhere in the UK for
the cost of a local rate phone call.
uro Currency; We are happy to accept
Euro cash payments in our shop. We display our rate beside the
counter. We normally allow the market rate rounded down to the
next whole penny. For example, at the time of writing, the
market rate is 0.8993, so we are allowing 89p per Euro (which is
probably better than your bank will give you). You can also pay
for auction lots in Euro banknotes (postal customers please
confirm before sending). We also accept payments in our shop in
Euros, and we buy the old legacy currencies, as well as other
coins and notes.
Most auctions include a
few lots which, due to their large size or weight compared to
value, will not be taken to the auction venue. They must
therefore be viewed at our shop during the previous week, and
successful purchasers will be responsible for their collection
from us. The symbol for these is , and very generally
speaking, there's a cut-off point of about 2 or 3 estimate
per kilo weight.
If you attend the auction and buy any of these lots, you can
either call at the shop during normal opening hours, or it is
sometimes possible to arrange to pick up after the auction has
finished (though please first speak to Mr. Murray to arrange
this).
NORMAL BIDDING STEPS
We list here
our normal bid steps for your information. This may be of help
to bidders who are unable to
attend the sale, as any written bids received which do not fit
our normal pattern would usually be taken
down to the next normal step. (We keep to these increments as
much as possible, but do sometimes
change if circumstances make it desirable.)
Up to 20, bids are in 1 steps.
From 20 to 30, bids are in 2 steps.
>From 30 to 50, bids are in 2 or 3 steps (i.e. 30,
32, 35, 38, 40, 42, 45, 48, 50).
>From 50 to 100 in 5 steps.
From 100 to 200,
bids are in 10 steps.
>From 200 to 300, bids are in 20 steps.
>From 300 to 500, bids are in 20 or 30, and above this
in 5% to 10% steps.
Abbreviations;
a list of abbreviations and symbols used is from time to
time included in the auction catalogue. We suggest that you

time before the sale (but the earlier the better). These bids should be confirmed in writing, even if the
written confirmation will not reach us until after the auction. Numbers are 0131 552 1220, 0131 478

within one hour on the auction day)
CREDIT
CARDS
We are happy to accept
MasterCard and Visa credit card payments, as well as payments
by Maestro and Delta. This facility can be used by room
purchasers (who pay their accounts at the auction), by other
local customers (who pay their bill in our shop), and by
postal buyers.
In order to deal with postal clients, our bid forms have been
designed to make space for credit card instructions.
If you want your purchases charged in this way, please
complete the appropriate section.
Do not complete
these details unless you want to pay by credit card, and to have the lots posted.
We have negotiated good rates with our bank, and are able to
absorb the bank charges for this service ourselves, and
therefore there is no additional charge for the use of this
facility, as long as postal bidders give us their details in
advance of posting. Only for postal buyers where card
details are given after posting, we will charge 1.9% extra (Visa/MasterCard) or 18p
(Maestro and Delta), plus cost of posting receipt slip.
VIEWING; please note that lots can normally be viewed in our
shop during the one week prior to the auction. It is
sometimes possible to view auction lots outside the normal times,
but this must be by special arrangement.
