This is a public auction, in which written/telephone/e-mail bids are also accepted. If you are bidding with us for the first time, please bid by two of these methods with the same bids (e.g. by post and by phone, or by telephone and by e-mail), or bid in good enough time for us to get back in touch with you with any queries.

1 Interesting
old world collection in a well-filled Strand
album collected between 1924 and
1939. The bulk in numbers is in general world material, but the
charm of the collection
comes from the fact that the original collector was a
well-travelled seafarer (eventually a
captain) who seems to have been in the habit of buying a
selection of the mint stamps
currently on sale at many of the ports he visited (these also
hold much of the value).
Notable countries and areas include UK (2 used penny blacks,
mint 2/6 and 5/- seahorses),
Crete, Hong Kong, British POs in China (mint KG5 values to $2
and $5, cat. c.£700.),
China, Portuguese Colonies, British West Indies, and
Newfoundland. Condition generally
fine (some poorer) and the mint normally quite solidly mounted.
(c.4,500+) Also a few
loose items. þ

Switzerland
Mixed
Lots; There
seem to be large quantities of Swiss philatelic material on
the market at present, which of course can lead to prices being
low. Several Switzerland
lots in our last auction were left unsold, even with quite
conservative estimates; these are
offered again here (with estimates reduced by about 20%, and
marked with *) along with
further fresh lots. The reason for this note here is to
encourage those people who might
otherwise skip this section to give these lots their
consideration. Whether a general collector
or someone thinking of resale, current market prices present a
fine opportunity.
