This is an archive copy of a past auction catalogue. Many people find these useful for finding references to specialist items, or to research prices. Prices realised can normally be found in the "Word" version of the subsequent catalogue. Current and forthcoming auctions are listed at www.stamp-shop.com/stamp-auctions.html. (Everything in this auction will have been sold. Nothing will still be available for sale, although similar material might appear in future auctions.) |

effected
so as to save file space and transfer/download time. Most
illustrations
and logos for example have been removed. Although it is not in
the
easiest
form to read, hopefully it will still bring you the
information you
need.
The sale is

The figure at the end of each description is our estimate, in pounds sterling. Bids are accepted above or below this figure, although bids below about 75% or 80% estimate only have a tiny chance of success. Estimates are in Pounds Sterling do not include the 10% buyer's premium.
After the main listings you will find various information and instructions. This is followed by a sample bid form, and a copy of the the notes that appear on the reverse of our bid forms.
This is a public auction, in which written/telephone/e-mail bids are also accepted. If you are bidding with us for the first time, please bid by two of these methods with the same bids (e.g. by post and by phone, or by telephone and by e-mail), or bid in good enough time for us to get back in touch with you with any queries.
NEW BIDDERS;
Please note that bidders who are not already known to us are required to bid in the first instance by two different methods. The options available are email, telephone, or post. New customers attending one of our sales in person for the first time, and intending to bid, are invited to make themselves known before the sale starts. This saves the auctioneer from having to ask for a name during the sale. |

Problems,
problems,
problems
We
have a number of obstacles to overcome with this auction;
postal
strikes,
roadworks, and internet.
[a] Post. At the time of writing,
there are postal strikes in various parts of the UK
(including
Edinburgh
deliveries). This may delay the delivery of this catalogue,
and might
disrupt
delivery of bids to us. If you have any doubt about your
bids arriving
in time,
please phone us to check.
[b] Roads.
The
gas main in
the road outside our shop is being replaced. Local customers
will be
aware of
the restrictions, but it would appear these are about to
move. Part of
Ferry
Road between our shop and the auction venue is likely to be
for
eastbound
traffic only. So, either approach from the west, or give
yourself a few
minutes
extra to allow for delays. Parking around the shop is also
squeezed, so
allow
time for a small extra walk. Access to the front of the shop
is
presently ok
for loading.
[c] Emails.
We
have had problems
with our emails in the past week, which hopefully seem to be
fixed. As
always,
we will confirm email bids within 24 hours of receipt, so if
you dont
hear
from us, phone to check. If you want to be sure, why not
send your
email to two
addresses [email protected] and
[email protected] well
not make
you bid against yourself !
A Buyers Premium of
10% (vat-inclusive) will be added to all sale prices.

this
number to make bids or to check on
prices after the auction or any time you want to speak to us
from
anywhere
in the UK for the cost of a local rate phone call.
uro Currency; We are happy to accept
Euro cash payments in our shop. We display our rate beside the
counter.
We
normally allow the market rate rounded down to the next whole
penny.
For
example, at the time of writing, the market rate is 0.8579, so
we are
allowing
85p per Euro (which is probably better than your bank will give
you).
You can
also pay for auction lots in Euro banknotes (postal customers
please
confirm
before sending). We also accept payments in our shop in Euros,
and we
buy many of the
old legacy currencies, as well as other coins and notes.
Most
auctions include a few lots which, due to their large size or
weight
compared
to value, will not be taken to the auction venue. They must
therefore
be viewed
at our shop during the previous week, and successful
purchasers will be
responsible for their collection from us. The symbol for these
is , and very generally
speaking,
there's a cut-off
point of about 2 or 3 estimate per kilo weight.
If you attend the auction and buy any of these lots, you can
either
call at the
shop during normal opening hours, or it is sometimes possible
to
arrange to
pick up after the auction has finished (though please first
speak to
Mr. Murray
to arrange this).

STEPS
We

be of

who are unable to
attend the sale, as any written bids received which do not fit
our
normal
pattern would usually be taken
down to the next normal step. (We keep to these increments as

possible,
but do sometimes
change if circumstances make it desirable.)
Up to 20, bids are in 1 steps.
From 20 to 30, bids are in 2 steps.

CREDIT
CARDS
We are happy to
accept MasterCard and Visa credit card
payments, as well as payments by Maestro and Delta. This
facility can
be used
by room purchasers (who pay their accounts at the auction), by
other
local
customers (who pay their bill in our shop), and by postal
buyers.
In order to deal with postal clients, our bid forms have been
designed
to make
space for credit card instructions.
If you want your purchases charged in this way, please
complete the
appropriate
section.
Do not complete
these
details unless you want to
pay by credit card, and to have the
lots posted.
We have negotiated good rates with our bank, and are able to
absorb the
bank
charges for this service ourselves, and therefore there is no
additional charge
for the use of this facility, as long as postal bidders give
us their
details in
advance of posting. Only for postal buyers where card
details are
given after
posting, we will charge 1.9% extra
(Visa/MasterCard) or 18p (Maestro
and Delta), plus cost of posting receipt slip.
VIEWING; please note that lots can normally be viewed in our
shop during the one week prior to the auction. It is
sometimes
possible
to view auction lots outside the normal times, but this must be by
special
arrangement.
